And most people who have been living here will admit that Chandigarh as a city has a strange charm about it. It is an undeniable fact that once you experience life in Chandigarh, you will simply not be able to settle in any other city!
For us, Chandigarh is not just a city or a Union Territory; it is much more and has an underlying story that unites the people staying here. Even though it is a relatively new city, Chandigarh still has a vibrant history and its journey over the years has been quite interesting. This gorgeous city, known as The City Beautiful, has set a benchmark in terms of its exceptional planning, architecture as well as its pristine scenic beauty.

India’s First Planned City
Belonging to the Harappan Civilization around 8000 years ago, Chandigarh has its roots in the historical era. And it is certainly a wonderful feeling to witness and know that Chandigarh is the first fully planned city of the country!
Hailed as the most well-planned city of the nation, the system of infrastructure here, be it roads, houses, or sectoral divisions is perfectly planned and structured. Plus, Chandigarh is developed over a region of approx. 114 SQ. KMS, thus making it big enough place to accommodate the large population.
Created by a French Architect
Chandigarh, as observed now, had its origins from the mind of the French Architect, Le Corbusier. Considered as the best piece of architecture and planning by the architect, Chandigarh has various other coveted titles to its credit as well.
And indeed, it is because of the innovative mind of Le Corbusier that the present day Chandigarh has retained its beauty and serenity till date!
The Missing Sector 13
Yes, you realized it now; there is no Sector 13 in Chandigarh! As amusing as it may sound, Chandigarh does not have Sector 13 as 13 was considered an unlucky number by its architect, Le Corbusier.
And what’s more, even Panchkula that lies in its vicinity does not have a sector with number 13, as well!
Government Base to Three States
The city plays host to three Governments, thus confirming that a majority of the people staying in the city are working as Government officials or retired Government servants.
The city has also been awarded with the tag of ‘Pensioner’s Paradise’ owing to it the simple yet elegant lifestyle.
Nature as its base
One of the most important parts of the city’s design was the tree plantation to aid in the preservation of nature and its elements.
It is because of this very reason that the city has around 26 flower varieties and 22 tree varieties planted at different localities, rendering an even more endearing look to the city altogether. Add to it the fact that Chandigarh has many times bagged the position of one of the cleanest cities in India.
